"A copy of a post card I sent my mother. It is a picture of a building in the town
of Kamaishi before the 3rd Fleet decimated most of the town. Battleships razed
the town with 16-inch shells. The entire industrial, commercial and much of the
residential areas was just plain rubble. There was not one stick standing. That
shows the devastating power of those guns which were also used to soften up
the beachheads before landing."    - Howard Herman
